HURLEY CHURCH
As you may know, a
recent architect’s survey declared that Hurley Church
was no longer safe for public services and will be closed until the Diocese of
Birmingham, in consultation with the local community, decides it’s future. We
know that several items in the Church were given in memory of loved ones by
local families, and understand that they may now be concerned about what may
happen to these items. The Church Council would like to reassure everybody that
all items will be kept safe, with moveable items possibly moved into storage at
one of the other churches in the Parish – Baxterley ,Kingsbury, Merevale or
Wood End – so if you see or hear of anything being taken out of the Church it
is being moved temporarily to one of the other churches . Hurley Church
itself will be checked at least once a week by a member of the Church Council
to ensure the safety of everything which cannot be moved to one of the other
churches. The Church Council will of course keep the village informed of any
decisions about the future of the Church.
The Revd. Dr. John White retired on 1st July this year. The picture on the left is after his last service at Kingsbury Church on the 29th June, celebrating St. Peter and St. Paul.
If you would like to read John's final sermon, you can read it here; and if you would like to read the tribute given by the Church Wardens, you can read it here.
We are of course now in interregnum - Revd Carole is the one to contact for all pastoral matters, and anything to do with church buildings, please contact the appropriate Church Wardens.
Our prayers are with John as he starts his new adventure in retirement!
